Life is so incredibly busy. Our culture has taught us to be on the go every minute and every second of the day. We feel selfish or lazy when we take a moment to stop and give ourselves rest. But what happens when we cannot go anymore?
The answer for me is that I break down. I become depleted and exhausted without rest and I cannot function in a healthy or balanced way. I cannot give to my children, my husband, my clients or my friends. I end up in survival mode, just trying to make it through the day.
I find myself on a roller coaster that goes up and down. I am learning to embrace this coaster and flow with the movement of it instead of resisting the twists and turns, the ups and downs. The other thing I am learning to do is to get off the roller coaster and take a break before hopping back on.
Life is like a roller coaster. It is okay to jump on the ride from time to time, but you must know when it is time to get off. If you stay on the coaster and never give yourself a break, your body will eventually get sick and you will get bored and tired.
For Today
Get off the roller coaster and take a break. When you find yourself getting sick, tired, bored or shut down, take a moment to assess your ride. Do you need to get off and take a break? If so, then what does that break look like? Practice self-compassion by giving yourself permission to rejuvenate and renew your mind, body and soul. It will make you stronger and better equipped to function at the necessary pace our culture requires of you.
Peace and blessings,
Katie
