One of the very first stages of surrender is denial. Half the people I meet with struggle to surrender or let go of a problem is because they do not believe in the existence of a Higher Power. They do not understand God and cannot see Him, therefore they do not believe.
While I’ve always believed in the existence of God, I don’t think I fully understood what I was believing in. It wasn’t until I began to explore my beliefs that the denial and resistance began to fade. It wasn’t until I let go of my understanding of God; who I thought He should be, that I was able to see Him in my life. It wasn’t until I let go of my expectations of what He should be doing in my life and how it should be done, that I was able to see Him work in my life.
Even when we believe in God we still struggle with this stage of denial and resistance. Our pride takes over and we think we can do things on our own. We let fear control us and we try to handle a situation on our own. We cannot always see the issue clearly and do not know what needs to be surrendered.
We cannot surrender what we cannot see and we cannot surrender if we do not believe.
For Today
Instead of thinking, “God does not exist because if He did, then he would…” “If I let go then…..might happen.” And, “What if I let go and He doesn’t handle it?” Try praying, “God, please remove the blinders from my eyes and help me to see You in my life. Show me what I need to let go of in my life.
Peace and blessings,
Katie
